Live news: Asian equities decline after Fitch cuts US debt rating

Events: India’s Supreme Court is expected to begin hearing applications challenging the abrogation of Article 370 of the constitution, which bestowed special status on the then state of Jammu and Kashmir. Markets: Futures in Tokyo and Hong Kong pointed lower on Wednesday morning. US stocks declined on Tuesday after economic data suggested that elevated interest rates were weighing on the economy. The S&P 500 closed 0.3 per cent lower, while the Nasdaq Composite dropped 0.4 per cent.
