Joanna Lumley returns to our screens tonight in new series ‘Joanna Lumley’s Spice Trail Adventure’ and you can watch a clip ahead of the premiere!
Lumley embarks on one of her most exciting voyages yet, discovering the rich flavors and cultures that have shaped our world across the world’s great spice continents. Visiting Indonesia, Zanzibar, India and Madagascar, Joanna explores the centuries-old spice trade in this new four-part series.
The first episodes will see Lumley in Indonesia. In this episode, Lumley is headed to a remote Indonesian archipelago, so small that her first challenge is to find it on the map. The Banda Islands were the only place on earth where nutmeg grew. Joanna meets families who make a living collecting them, uncovers Banda’s dark past and discovers that Banda’s charm once attracted A-listers including Mick Jagger.
In Indonesia’s capital city of Jakarta, Joanna finds out what the focus is on the 200 million clove cigarettes smoked in Indonesia every day. She pops into a cool speakeasy bar to taste a spicy cocktail and discovers a newfound love of Indonesian national pop music.
‘Joanna Lumley’s Spice Trail Adventure’ is on ITV1 and ITVX tonight at 9pm.
