NEW YORK (AP) — CNN political correspondent Dana Besh is replacing John King on the weekday afternoon news show Inside Politics, the network announced Thursday.
King will lead a new reporting project that will tell stories about voters in key swing states, the network said.
“This is my dream mission into the future,” King said. “It’s my 10th term as president and I felt it was time to go back to my roots and cover the whole country with what’s at stake.”
Besh, a 30-year-old CNN contributor who is replacing her ex-husband on Inside Politics, will continue to work with Jake Tapper on the weekend’s State of the Union show.
“John has created a great show with a loyal following of political junkies and I look forward to directing its next chapter,” she said.
The news comes amid a week of upheaval and change at major news outlets.
Don Lemon announced this morning that he has been fired from CNN, which he co-hosted with Caitlan Collins and Poppy Hallow for six months.
The former host shared the news on Twitter.
“My agent informed me this morning that I have been fired from CNN. I am shocked,” he wrote.
In a statement, CNN CEO Chris Leach said the network wishes him well and encourages him in his future endeavors, in an email to CNN staff reached by USA TODAY.
On the same day, Fox News announced the departure of primetime cable anchor Tucker Carlson, who hosted the conservative prime-time community show Tucker Carlson Tonight. The interim program, which consists of rotating Fox News personalities, will run 8 ETs until a new host is named.
“Thank you for your service to the network as a host and before that as a contributor,” Fox said.
