The saving grace of this film is that Han is allowed to express his emotions just as much as Gonzo is allowed to free his imagination. Again, the touch of substance works to their advantage: most viewers can understand the main theme even if they don’t use the word “friend” in every line of dialogue. But in the final scene, Anna’s genuine love for her character and their love for each other becomes contagious. Actors deserve more respect. Here everyone sells the relationship more convincingly than in the previous episodes of The Guardians. It’s probably the worst and best of the three lessons, but it’s as good as any movie with lots of visiting, tentacled monsters.
