Get A ‘Taste Of The Blues’ At This Festival On Saturday – Daily Top Times

Looking for cheap fun this weekend? Well, maybe this is something for you.

Crystal Springs Main Street will host the 4th annual Crystal Springs Downtown Blues Festival on Saturday, admission is free.

The festival will feature children’s activities, craft stalls in the children’s area and plenty of food. Of course, there will be live music. Blues band Shake It Like A Caveman will headline with Jason Bailey and the Bridge Band.

The Blues Festival at Crystal Springs? Yes, Crystal Springs is strongly associated with the blues. Mississippi blues legend Robert Johnson was born nearby, and their only son, Claude Johnson, lived and raised his family in Crystal Springs.

The town is home to the Robert Johnson Museum, and the town’s boardwalks play music from Johnson’s Crosstown Blues.

“We focused on the blues because of our history with Robert Johnson,” said Felicia Thompson, manager of Main Street Crystal Springs.

The town was once the hidden but influential home of bluesman Tommy Johnson, who is buried just outside the city limits. Tommy Johnson is known for songs like “Canned Hit Blues” and “Big Road Blues”.

In addition to live music, food and shopping, there’s karaoke for aspiring blues artists.

“It’s going to be a fun family day,” Thompson said.
